Important notice

Indications

The benign or malign tumors localized in: liver, kidneys, pancreas, bone, breast, uterus, muscles, adipose tissue.

Treated Forms of Cancer.

Kidney cancer: until the HIFU-CHU method, the kidney cancer usually needed surgical interventions, followed by radiotherapy and medication. The treatment of kidney cancer by HIFU-CHU method reduces significantly the trauma caused to the organism and, in certain cases, it might even help to eliminate dialysis.

Liver cancer: the liver tumors can be destroyed by HIFU-CHU method, fact which was only possible so far surgically. In case of liver metastasis, the ultrasounds treatment helps to ameliorate the health of the patient and to prevent the cancer spreading through out the organism.

Bone cancer: the HIFU-CHU method is sure and efficient in the treatment of certain types of localized tumors. It has the great advantage of preventing the amputation of the affected limb.

Other types of cancer: the pain that comes along with diverse types of cancer can be reduced by ultrasounds. Also, some forms of cancer (breast, pancreas, soft tissues), traced during incipient stages, can be treated by HIFU-CHU method.

Contraindications

Tumors in organs containing gases (lungs, stomach, small intestine), without contact with the thoracic or abdominal wall.
Mediastinal tumors
Back bone tumors (partial contraindication, decision of the medical committee).

Brief Description of the Therapeutic Process

Preliminary Therapy

The treatment begins with the file evaluation by the medical committee and the assessment of the possibility for the patient to be accepted for treatment; a planning session follows (with an average duration of less than one day), for confirmation of the compatibility with the HIFU-CHU method. The therapy is preceded by a set of paraclinical investigations, depending on the localization of tumors.

Therapy

The treatment itself is done under anesthesia, in order to avoid movements or any kind of discomfort; the patients lay down above the ultrasounds source and the affected area is treated. Small tumors are treated for about two hours, while larger tumors may need longer intervals of treatments. After the ultrasounds therapy, the patient must remain in the hospital for one night, until the total elimination of the anesthesia effects.

Post-Therapy

Paraclinical re-assessment to confirm the success of the treatment, subsequently followed by the monitoring through periodical checking and collaboration with the family doctor and the specialist physician, observing the patient.
